The morning is a time that deserves more attention. Too often we rush out of bed, rush through breakfast, rush to the office. Creating a calm morning routine can be as simple as adding fun and functional spaces to your home. A breakfast nook is the perfect way to encourage relaxing mornings and increased downtime in your mobile home. So let’s dive in!
Find a space for your breakfast nook
You probably already have an idea of where you want to put your breakfast nook. In some unused or not-quite-functional corner of the kitchen, perhaps. If you’re still unsure, however, or want to make your space even better, here are some tips.
Does your space have a window? Can you add in a window? While we can’t prove that they’re exactly a necessity in a breakfast nook, windows are definitely a desired feature. When it comes to how exactly to introduce windows, you have options – big or small, one or two (or even three)…anything will work. The idea is to let in the morning light and create a space that is fun to be in early in the morning. The feeling of freshness and airiness is essential. And who wouldn’t want a good view of the outdoors while sitting at a breakfast nook? If windows aren’t an option, a large statement mirror is another great way to lighten up the space.
Your breakfast nook doesn’t need to be in a separate alcove all it’s own (although that would be great if you can pull it off). We know that in a mobile home, you’re probably not working with a ton of square footage. If space is a constraint, your nook could be right next to the fridge and include only two chairs. There aren’t rules for this! We’ll get into some unique ideas below. But first, let’s talk about seating.
Seating
You need to decide what your space will include. A bench? A corner or wrap-around bench? Chairs only? If your space (and your family) is large, try to include as many seats as possible. For instance, a bench on one side and a couple of chairs on the other. Or, as we mentioned, maybe your space will only accommodate seating for two if that’s all your family calls for.
A DIY bench is a frugal option if you’re thinking about skipping the custom seating. This tutorial from Designing Vibes is sure to inspire you. This particular design includes storage hidden under the seat. Front storage, such as drawers or bins, is also a great option. Take this example from Know How She Does It.
And you could always get highly creative and use a sofa (or two) like this.
The perfect table
The perfect table is going to look different depending on the configuration of your space. So forget your initial table preferences. You need to think about this with an open mind. Choose a table with your nook in mind. If it’s a small space, chances are you’re going to pick the round table with the smallest-possible pedestal. You need room for your own legs, after all. However, if your space is less enclosed, you can use a table with more widespread legs and a larger footprint.
Then, of course, there are those rare instances where square or rectangle tables are acceptable. Slimmed-down rectangle tables are perfect for long, thin spaces when a circle table isn’t practical. Remember, nobody says a table has to be big. This isn’t a dining room, after all!
Create a breakfast nook that’s unique to you
Do a quick online search, and you’ll soon discover that there are many different takes on the perfect breakfast nook. But with so many options out there, we narrowed it down to a few of our favorites.
- Create a breakfast nook that is an extension of a kitchen counter. Perfect for small spaces!
- Install a table attached to the wall. That will get the retro vibes going.
- Create a mini bartop somewhere in your kitchen if you don’t have space for a large one.
- Put a coffee bar next to your breakfast nook for easy access.
- Station the breakfast nook just outside the kitchen if there isn’t room inside.
- Be sure to include many pillows, artwork, and beautiful curtains. If you’re looking to give your kitchen a little pop, install a little wallpaper and hang a fancy light fixture.
