Do you tend to go over-the-top with your home decor? Despite popular belief, there are ways to go overboard while still maintaining a tasteful look. Today, people are so in love with minimalism that they think big and bold is just, well, wrong. But it’s not, and one of the designs that proves it is Hollywood glam. If you like spunky colors and mid-century modern lines, Hollywood glam is the perfect fit for you.

Today we’re going to give you some tips on how to achieve the look in your mobile home. But first, let’s clear up one question.

What is Hollywood glam?

Hollywood glam, or Hollywood regency, as it’s sometimes called, was first seen in the 1930s. The Golden Age of Hollywood gave birth to many larger-than-life actors who made paychecks to match their fame. Inspired by then-current art deco trends and Victorian design, Hollywood glam became the trademark style of the people associated with big movie companies.

Fast forward nine decades, and it’s still popular with actors and ordinary people alike. The key to creating Hollywood glam style in your mobile home is to think bold. Bold everything. Bold colors, furniture, accents, and patterns.

What influenced Hollywood glam?

Like we said before, art deco wielded a big influence on this design. Art deco inspirations are prevalent in the mid-century modern design of today. Keep in mind, however, that there are differences. Hollywood glam emphasizes metals and omits the clean wood finishes that are so popular in mid-century modern designs. Hollywood glam is also more feminine and elegant.

Which brings us to Hollywood glam’s next big influence: Victorian. There are many similarities between these two styles. The feminine, elegant design, paired with Victorian-inspired colors such as red, greed, and pink inspires many Hollywood glam designers. The use of mirrors, oversized furniture, and large focal points is also inspired by the late 1800s. Antique pieces and elegant vintage accents also play a large part in Hollywood glam style – though not always. If antiques aren’t your style, you can design your space to be as new and clean as you like (i.e. antiques are not required).

Simplicity is key

Didn’t we just establish that Hollywood glam is not for the modern minimalist? Yes. But simplicity and minimalism are not the same things. What Hollywood glam does is eliminate the unnecessary and instead play up the essential elements. Instead of paint, put up wallpaper (preferably something floral or geometric in rich colors). Don’t buy two couches, get one couch with a Victorian flair (complete with luxe fabric and pleats). Add two bold accent chairs.

And here’s a pro tip: use gold, brass, or silver as your accents (you can choose either shiny or matte finishes, whichever you prefer). Rather than wood or black metal, your coffee table, shelving, mirrors, light fixtures, and other accent pieces should be in keeping with the glamorous design. Which is why we recommend you choose items made of these metals.

How to choose accessories wisely

When choosing your accessories, don’t overfill the room with interesting decor pieces. A few well-chosen accessories go a long way. Yet even though you’ll want to be simplistic in your design, smaller accent pieces are still a must.

Chinese-inspired flowers and birds are popular, as are palm leaves, so try to incorporate those. Make use of fur and velvet, and contrast it with metallic accents, as we mentioned above. Starburst mirrors, a throwback to the ’50s, are a common sight in Hollywood homes – as is anything else inspired by starbursts. Be sure to include stools, ottomans, or a velvet-covered cocktail table.

For a proper Hollywood glam chandelier, again, gold or brass is probably the way to go. It should be elegant and feature circles. Whether it takes the shape of a starburst or several globes clustered together, a chandelier is one of the key elements of glamor. You’re sure to nail it if you have an adequately glamorous light hanging from the ceiling of every room.

Perfect recipe for a glamorous mobile home

Hollywood glam is not for everyone, and even some actors don’t live in what we’d call a glamorous home. But for those of us who need a little pizzazz in our lives, Hollywood glam is the way to go. With limited resources and space, creating a bold look in your mobile home can be challenging. But that’s the fun of it! The magical appeal of Hollywood glam is what has helped it to stand the test of time. It’s time to turn your cozy little mobile home into something even more beautiful.
