Minimalist design in a mobile home

Before we carry on, understand that minimalist design isn’t just a look. It’s a lifestyle that affects your mind and life.

Change is hard. Even the best of us struggle with taking on change. Once you’re set in a certain way, you need to work extra to get back on a good trajectory. But through the power of habit, you can keep the momentum going with positive change.

5 habits to start right now

So let’s look at 5 power habits to get that minimalist design going strong. Read onward!

1 – Have a place for everything

You know those keys you use every day? Don’t just toss them on the counter. Find a “home” for them. Install a key hanger by the door or your counter. If you keep it by the entrance, it’ll be easy to develop a consistent habit of placing your keys there.

That’s just one example of what we mean by having a place for everything. It’ll cut the cluttery feel out of your home life.

2 – Don’t collect trash

Old papers and mail shouldn’t stick around for long. If it’s important, get yourself a filing cabinet for it. This will cultivate an organized life.

Need an important insurance document? There won’t be any scrambling. You’ll just need to refer to your filing cabinet’s insurance folder. Easy as pie. And you won’t have papers piling on your counter or getting crumpled into a cabinet drawer. Forget the days of scrambling to find your paperwork. You’ll know where it is when you need it.

3 – Resist the urge to buy what catches your eye

Whatever you do, resist the urge to buy whatever it is that catches your eye. You can’t cultivate a minimalist design with that sort of attitude.

Give yourself some set standards. For instance:

  • Are you trying to keep up with a particular color scheme?
  • Does the item you want fit that color scheme?
  • Will it make your house look cluttered?
  • How will it enhance or detract from your life?

Be selective of what you bring into your home.

4 – Clear your countertops right away

Each night, you would do well to clear your countertops and table right away. These are problem areas for most homes. Keep your countertops and tabletops clear. This will help you maintain a minimalist vibe in your mobile home.

Countertop and tabletop clutter doesn’t have to run your life. Nip it in the bud and watch your home bloom into something beautiful. Own that home.

5 – Tackle them dishes and don’t lollygag on the laundry

That’s right. Those dishes shouldn’t be left in the sink overnight. Roll up your sleeves and deal with them soon after your meal or snack. You’ll keep the dirty dish monster at bay. And it will feel so good enjoy a clean kitchen throughout the day.

As for that laundry, it can spiral out of control if you’re not careful. Be intentional about folding it without delay. Otherwise, a pile of clean laundry can grow on that couch of yours. A task that would have otherwise taken a small chunk of time while you watch a few online videos will take you a whole trilogy of feature-length films. (OK. Maybe that’s a slight exaggeration — but only slight.)

Minimalist design is an intentional design

Now that you have the keys to succeeding at minimalist design, you’re positioned to win. Go on and make your goals become a reality. Don’t throw your hands up in the air and believe this is out of your control. You can take control today.

Be intentional and find your freedom to live in minimalist design.
