Designing a dream home is everyone’s…well, dream. Most homeowners spend months and even years on their dream home project. They also spend a lot of cash. But does it have to be that hard? No! And that’s where mobile homes come in.

Designing and customizing your dream mobile home is not only a lower-cost option than some alternatives, but it’s also amazingly easy. Your custom-designed home will be manufactured in a warehouse and delivered right to your plot in a relatively short amount of time. Many companies even have their own design software that you can use to create the perfect home.

Today we’re bringing you our guide for designing your dream mobile home. From floor plans to budgeting, this is everything you need to know to make your dream a reality.

Getting started

The first thing you’ll need to do is choose a company that manufactures quality mobile homes. Does this company get good reviews? And are they reliable when it comes to scheduling?

At this point, you should also be forming an idea of what your budget will look like. Research things like home size, price, floor plans, and add-ons to determine what offers are out there. Be aware that companies also have limits on what you can customize, which can be a drawback if you’re looking for something specific.

Different manufacturers will have different price points and different quality standards. Pick a company that is sure to satisfy you on all points, and you’re off to a good start.

Designing your dream mobile home

After you’ve set your budget, determined what size mobile home you want to design, and selected the company you’ll be partnering with, it’s time to start designing!

Creating the perfect floor plan

To get inspiration for your custom floor plan, look at the floor plans already offered by your manufacturing company. For even more ideas, simply Google “mobile home floor plans” and click the “images” tab at the top of your browser. Now you can browse hundreds of mobile home floor plans from multiple companies.

Are there any particular features that appeal to you? For instance, do you prefer open floor plans with connected living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens? Or do you want your home to have an entryway area where the kids can kick off their shoes? Four bedrooms instead of three? Write down your must-haves.

Pay attention to the square footage of each room as labeled in each sample floor plan. This will give you a good idea of how much space you should allot for each room, or where you can save and add space in your custom home.

Choosing extras that fit within your budget

Do you like the idea of creating curb appeal on your mobile home with unconventional rooflines or a porch? It’s your dream house, so we don’t blame you for wanting it all! But first, consider what impact these add-ons will have on your budget. Also, there may be a cheaper solution to increase your curb appeal, such as choosing a high-grade siding color or changing the pitch of the roof.

Another option to consider is interior extras such as better appliances, flooring, or kitchen cabinets. Maybe you would like to add character with unique paint colors, crown moulding, arched doorways, or a fireplace. Manufacturing companies are usually willing to go the extra mile to make your vision a reality, but be sure that extras will fit comfortably within your budget before you make the final decision.

Finalizing your custom mobile home

Now it’s time to finalize your dream home plans and get this show on the road!

Check with the experts

There are a few things you need to do before you actually pull the trigger on your new home project. Present your final design ideas to a mobile home manufacturing company, first of all. Check with them to make sure that they can accommodate your wishes and give you a satisfactory price estimate.

Design layout on paper

Additionally, if you’re planning to put your home on a rented lot in a mobile home park, consult with the park management before purchasing your home. And last, but not least, your design will also need to be approved by your local zoning office.

It’s time to create your dream home

After your designs are approved, you can purchase your mobile home and construction will begin! This is an entirely hands-off part of the process for you, so sit back and relax. You’ve done your part, and now all you need to do is move in when the project is complete.
